Deze Library bevat alle Noten informatie voor de ArSid. Hieronder vallen de Noten-Namen, Noten-frequenties, Noten-waardes voor de Sids, Akkoorden-informatie, Akkoorden-namen en de ADSR-tijd-strings.

Al deze informatie is in te delen in 3 soorten, namelijk Noten-, Akkoorden- en ADSR-informatie.

  • Noten-informatie: De Noten-arrays hebben (in principe) 256 verschillende elementen met de nummers [0] tot en met [255]. De Midi-nummering loopt echter vanaf 0 en loopt tot en met 127. Hier is gekozen om de Midi-nummering vast te leggen in de bovenste helft van de noot-arrays. Dit heeft als gevolg dat de Noot-nummers in de Arsid dus vanaf -128 (= index [0]) tot en met +127 (= index [255]) lopen. Hierdoor is het mogelijk om de noten met een (halve) noot (of meerdere) te transponeren. Zelfs het transponeren van komplete oktaven is zo mogelijk. Ik wilde geen beperkingen aanbrengen in het totale bereik. Ook heeft elke noot een frequentie en een naam. Ook deze wil ik op het display kunnen laten zien.

  • Akkoorden-informatie: Een tweede iets dat ik erin wilde hebben is om met 1 Midi-noot een kompleet akkoord te kunnen afspelen. De informatie bestaat uit een basis-noot en een bepaald aantal extra noten die gespeeld moeten worden, maar dan enkele (Midi-)nummers hoger (of lager) dan de basis-noot. Ook het aantal noten is per akkoord verschillend. Ook heeft elk akkoord een eigen naam, die ik op het display wil laten zien. Op het moment van schrijven zijn er ruim 35 verschillende akkoorden mogelijk.

  • ADSR-Informatie: Dit is een korte array van maar 16 elementen, want een Sid heeft maar 4-bits (per ADSR-parameter) om deze in te stellen. Maar er is geen lineair verband tussen deze 4-bit nummering (vanaf 0 ($0) tot en met 15 ($F)) en de tijdsduren dat een parameter duurt (bij de Attack, Decay en Release). Bij de Sustain is die er wel, maar voor de volledigheid staat ook deze informatie in dit array.

In de ArSid is ook al deze informatie in enkele grote arrays gestopt. En ook deze array staan (net als de andere grote arrays van de ArSid) in het programma-geheugen (zie de statements: "static" en "PROGMEM"). De voornaamste reden is hier dat het sneller is om data uit een array te halen dan om data elke keer weer te berekenen (met moeilijke (en dus tijdvretende) formules), zoals de waardes die in een Sid gestopt (ge-poke-d) moeten worden, nadat bekend is welke Midi-noot (nummer) er gespeeld moet worden en welke frequentie daarbij hoort.

Welke arrays dat zijn, wordt hieronder beschreven.

Pascal-records voor bepaalde arrays - niet in C++ (?).

In de programmeer-taal Pascal was er een mogelijkheid om Array's van RECORDs te gebruiken. In het kort komt dat neer op slechts 1 array, waarin elk element zelf diverse verschillende formaten variabelen kan bevatten.

Aangezien ik deze methode niet ken in C++ (of: ik beheers ze niet), worden hier voor enkele soortgelijke informatie meerdere losse arrays met dezelfde index-nummeringen gebruikt.

De Noten-Namen - [256][6].

Hierin staan alle namen van de noten, zowel vanaf oktaaf 0 tot en met oktaaf 9 (hogere waardes zijn niet mogelijk met de Sid), als van de negatieve oktaven, genummerd vanaf oktaaf -1 terug naar oktaaf -12 (met een minimum van 0.01Hz - of te wel een cyclus-tijd van 100seconden). Elk element bestaat uit 5 tekens (letters, cijfers).

De nummering loopt synchroon met de andere noot-arrays. De naam van dit array is: static const unsigned char NoteName [256][6] PROGMEM = // = [000..255],[0..5]

Dit array neemt 1.50 kilobyte in beslag.

De Noten-frequenties - [256].

Hierin staan alle frequenties van de noten ... en wel in centi-Hertz. Op deze manier hoeven er geen "float"-nummers opgeslagen te worden, maar blijven het gewoon "integer" getallen ... of (in dit geval) in "long"-integers. Dit bespaart EN wat geheuge-ruimte EN wat rekentijd.

De nummering loopt synchroon met de andere noot-arrays. De naam van dit array is: static const long NoteFreq [256] PROGMEM = // = [000..255]

Dit array neemt 0.25 kilobyte in beslag.

De Noten-waardes voor de Sids - [257*16] = [4097].

Hierin staan alle frequentie-waardes die rechtstreeks in de 2 frequentie registers van de Sid kan worden gestopt (ge-poke-d), inclusief de (15) tussenliggende frequentie-waardes die een Pitch-Bend wheel kan veroorzaken. De pitch-bend waarde vari-eerd van -8 tot en met +7, waarbij de 0 de waarde is voor de zuivere noot (dus zinder pitch-bend). Dit levert een reuze array op van 4096 plaatsen (+ 1 extra om een overloop te voorkomen).

Dit array is afkomstig van de berekeningen van de NotenGenerator.

Het cre-eren van een groot 1-dimensionaal array, in plaats van een array met 2 dimensies, heeft als voordeel dat de pitch-bend waarde zelf buiten zijn bereik kan liggen en dat daarmee automatisch een waarde van een buurnoot genomen kan worden, zonder extra controle en/ of rekenwerk te moeten gebruiken, terwijl de noten-variatie gewoon door kan lopen. Pitch-bend waardes van +/-9 (of hoger ... veel hoger) zijn daarmee mogelijk.

De nummering loopt synchroon met de andere noot-arrays, met dat verschil dat de index-waarde voor dit array met 16 vermenigvuldigd moet worden. De naam van dit array is: static const word NoteSid [257 * 16] PROGMEM = // = [0000..4096] [000..256][00..15]

Wat opvalt zijn de vele NUL-waardes aan het begin en het eind van dit array. De NULlen aan het begin komt overeen met 0Hz (NUL Hertz), of te wel geen geluid. De NULlen aan het eind geeft aan dat hier een frequentie gebruikt zou moeten worden die buiten het bereik van de Sid ligt, maar niet afgerond mag worden tot $FFFF (ong 3800Hz). Dit laatste zou valse noten laten horen, wat ongewenst is. Daarom is er gekozen om dan geen noot te laten horen (= NUL Hertz).

Dit array neemt iets meer dan 4.00 kilobyte in beslag. Elke verdubbeling van het aantal tussenliggende Pitch-bend-waardes heeft een verdubbeling van de array-grootte tot gevolg. Voorlopig lijkt mij dat dit aantal pitch-bend-waardes voldoende is, tot de praktijk anders gaat uitwijzen.

De Akkoorden-informaties - [41][7].

Hierin staat informatie over het spelen van akkoorden en bestaat per akkoord uit 7 elementen. Namelijk het aantal noten dat een akkoord heeft en (maximaal) 6 noot-verschuivingen van het akkoord. Elke noot-verschuiving is ten opzichten van de gespeelde noot en over het gehele noten-spectrum blijken alle noten op vaste afstanden te liggen.

De nummering loopt synchroon met het andere akkoorden-array. De naam van dit array is: static const short Akkoord [41][7] PROGMEM = // = [00..39],[0..6] { Aantal, Noot1, Noot2, Noot3, Noot4, Noot5, Noot6 }

Dit array neemt iets meer dan 0.28 kilobyte in beslag.

De Akkoorden-namen - [41][8].

Hierin staat informatie over de namen van de akkoorden.

Dit array neemt iets meer dan 0.32 kilobyte in beslag.

De nummering loopt synchroon met het andere akkoorden-array. De naam van dit array is: static const char AkkoordName [41][8] PROGMEM = // = [00..39],[0..7]

De ADSR-tijd-namen - [16][4][4].

Hierin staat informatie over de tijden van de Attack, Decay en Release EN het procentuele niveau van de Sustain. Elk element kan (maar) 3 tekens innemen, om de eenvoudige reden dat er op het display niet meer ruimte is gereserveerd voor deze informatie, zonder de layout te verstoren.

  • Attack, Decay, Release: Wat opvalt zijn de letters bij de getallen, namelijk "m", "c", "d" en "s". De betekenis hiervan is "milli" (= een duizendste), "centi" (= een honderdste), "deci" (= een tiende), "seconde". Hier geldt dat een getal als "0.002" wel 5 tekens inneemt en " 2m" maar drie (inclusief de spatie).

  • Sustain: Hierin staan de "waardes" in procenten, waarbij de hoogste waarde "99%" is, in plaats van 100%. De reden hiervoor is dat "100%" (met 4 tekens) te lang is.

De naam van dit array is: static const char ADSR_Times [16][4][4] PROGMEM = // = [00..15],[0..3], [0..3]

Dit array neemt 0.25 kilobyte in beslag.

En voor de rest?

Er staan nog enkele constantes in deze Library, namelijk:

  • NoteNameLen, AkkoordName_Len en ADSR_TimesLen: Voor tekst-lengtes (van de diverse namen).
  • Akkoord_Aantal: Over het aantal akkoorden.
  • AkkoordNoot_Aantal: Het maximaal aantal noten in een akkoord.

Er zijn geen functies aanwezig.
